Conversion Therapy Survivor Timothy Schraeder Rodriguez Launches ‘Pray the Gay to Stay’ to Help LGBTQ+ People Reclaim Their Faith

Co-created with licensed therapist Candice Czubernat, the 31-day digital course supports LGBTQ+ people navigating religious trauma, with 100% of net proceeds funding therapy scholarships.

NEW YORK, NY — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2026 — Author and conversion therapy survivor Timothy Schraeder Rodriguez has launched Pray the Gay to Stay, a 31-day digital course co-created with licensed mental health counselor Candice Czubernat, founder of The Christian Closet. The program helps LGBTQ+ people challenge religious shame, explore affirming approaches to faith, and embrace who they are.

Announced October 11 for National Coming Out Day, the course is launching now at a special discount on the digital program now through October 31st. 100% of proceeds go directly to therapy scholarships through Affirming Therapy to fund mental health care for LGBTQ+ individuals in crisis.

Rodriguez (NY) and Czubernat (San Francisco) are available for press interviews about the project, his experience in conversion therapy and the intersection of faith, sexuality and belonging.

Rodriguez’s memoir, Conversion Therapy Dropout, chronicles his eight years in conversion therapy and his work inside evangelical megachurches. He and Czubernat bring lived experience and clinical expertise to a course designed to help LGBTQ+ people reclaim their faith without trying to change who they are.

The founders self-funded the project and are taking no salary or profit. Enrollment costs $99, with 100% of net proceeds supporting LGBTQ+-affirming therapy scholarships through Affirming Therapy, the nonprofit founded by Czubernat.
