DANCE MUSIC PIONEER AND QUEER ICON KEVIN AVIANCE MARKS 20 YEARS SINCE VIOLENT HATE CRIME WITH NEW MUSIC AND FREE DJ SET LIVE IN TIMES SQUARE FOR NYC PRIDE WEEKEND
The Billboard chart-topping artist and LGBTQ nightlife legend will perform at TSQ LIVE's Pride in Times Square celebration and serve as celebrity judge for NYC Pride's Pride Idol competition
NEW YORK, NEW YORK — THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 2026 — Billboard chart-topping dance music pioneer, nightlife icon, and cultural trailblazer Kevin Aviance will mark the 20th anniversary of surviving a violent anti-LGBTQ hate crime with a series of high-profile appearances across New York City's official Pride celebrations, including a free public DJ set in Times Square and an appearance as celebrity judge for NYC Pride's annual Pride Idol competition. At both live appearances, Aviance will tease new music from a soon-to-be-announced album set for release later this summer.

The milestone Pride weekend comes as Aviance continues to reflect publicly on the lasting impact of the 2006 attack that nearly ended his life — and on the power of survival, visibility, and queer joy that has defined the two decades since. Through new music, public storytelling, and a renewed embrace of the nightlife culture he helped create, Aviance's return to the center of New York City's Pride celebrations serves as both a personal milestone and a broader reflection on the resilience of LGBTQ communities.
Twenty years ago, Kevin Aviance became one of the first nationally recognized LGBTQ cultural figures whose experience surviving a violent anti-LGBTQ hate crime unfolded in full view of the American media. The brutal 2006 attack against Aviance generated extensive mainstream news coverage and helped force a broader public conversation about anti-LGBTQ violence in New York City at a time when hate crimes against LGBTQ people often received little sustained national attention. Today, Aviance's continued visibility as an artist, survivor, and nightlife pioneer represents both a personal triumph and a broader story of LGBTQ resilience.

On Saturday, June 27, Aviance will perform a special DJ set as part of TSQ LIVE's Pride in Times Square Finale Party, a free public celebration produced by the Times Square Alliance and PRYSM Talent Management. Taking place on the Broadway pedestrian plaza between West 45th and West 46th Streets, the event will feature some of New York City's most celebrated LGBTQ nightlife performers, drag artists, DJs, and cultural institutions in one of the city's most visible public spaces. Aviance's performance will take place starting at 3PM ET.
Aviance's Pride weekend appearances will continue on Sunday, June 28, when he serves as the celebrity judge for NYC Pride's Pride Idol competition during PrideFest. Following the competition, Aviance will also perform an exclusive DJ set for NYC Pride attendees, bringing one of LGBTQ nightlife's most influential artists to one of Pride weekend's signature celebrations.
For more than three decades, Aviance has helped define the sound, style, and cultural influence of LGBTQ nightlife worldwide. A pioneering figure whose impact spans music, fashion, ballroom culture, performance, and popular culture, Aviance continues to shape conversations around queer visibility, artistic expression, and the transformative power of nightlife as both community and cultural movement.
